About the Crawford Band Program

The Crawford High School attendance zone incorporates a feeder system that includes three middle schools and three elementary schools. Instrumental music instruction begins in the sixth grade at Coleman, Thornton, and Baines Middle Schools in homogeneous class settings. Full band classes are structured for seventh- and eighth-grade students, where individual musicianship is emphasized and ensemble skills are developed and refined.

At the high school level, all students participate in the Crawford Marching Band during the majority of the fall semester. The Crawford Marching Band provides musical entertainment and supports the Crawford High School community at football games, pep rallies, and other campus events. In addition, the band prepares and performs a competitive musical and visual production for UIL marching contests and other regional competitions.

Since Crawford High School opened in 2023, the Band Program has experienced tremendous growth while establishing a tradition of excellence in a remarkably short period of time. The Crawford Marching Band has advanced to the UIL Area Marching Contest in consecutive years and has twice been named the Class 4A Champion at the Galena Park Marching Festival.

The Crawford Concert Ensembles serve as the musical foundation of the band organization. During the spring semester, students are assigned to one of the program’s concert ensembles based on ability level. The Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Concert Bands meet daily and prepare multiple performances throughout the concert season. Crawford ensembles consistently participate in the UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Evaluation, with both the Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band earning UIL Sweepstakes recognition.

The Crawford Wind Ensemble has quickly earned recognition beyond the local and regional level. The ensemble has advanced to the TMEA 4A Honor Band State Semi-Finals twice, including during the program’s inaugural year, and has been selected as an Invited Ensemble for the Minority Band Directors National Association Concert Band Invitational in Atlanta, Georgia.

Individual student achievement has also become an important part of the program’s growing tradition. Crawford musicians consistently earn placement in the TMEA All-Region Bands and Orchestras, participate in the Region 13 Solo & Ensemble Contest, and advance through the TMEA All-State audition process. The program has celebrated TMEA All-State musicians, along with numerous All-Region musicians, Area candidates, and students earning superior ratings in individual performance events.

Additional performance opportunities are sustained throughout the winter and spring, including percussion ensemble, chamber music, jazz, and other small-ensemble experiences. These opportunities allow students to further develop their individual musicianship, leadership, independence, and collaborative skills.

Above all, the Crawford Band Program is committed to continued growth while building a culture rooted in Pride in Excellence, inclusion, accountability, student leadership, and musical achievement. In only a few years, the program has grown from a newly established organization into a thriving and increasingly recognized band program, while continuing to provide meaningful opportunities for every student to contribute to its success.

The Crawford Band Program is consistently supported by an incredible network of parents and families who comprise the Crawford Band Boosters. These individuals provide extraordinary financial, physical, and moral support to the students and staff of the Crawford Band Program. Their dedication and partnership are essential to the continued growth and success of Crawford’s wind, percussion, marching band, and color guard programs.
